Review of Sage 50 2012

The improvements to the latest version of Sage 50 Accountancy Software are sometimes subtle but incredibly effective. Others are very obvious and very powerful. I will try to review the various improvements in a logical order, so let’s start at the very beginning!

Installation and Registration

This process has been vastly improved, with a view to making the end user experience a more pleasant one. It’s quicker with a lot less clicks, for those who wish to install it themselves. Registration can also be completed on-line without the need to phone Sage. Not forgetting that 3C Accounting Solutions will happily install and register Sage products for businesses that would rather avoid the guess work.

Quick Look-Up & Quick Print

These brand new features are really helpful. For Quick Search a new box in the tool bar enables you to search for anything from Customer to Products by simply typing part or all of the required data. The system will then search within the fields selected and open the relevant page. This will save end users an immeasurable amount of time searching for lost or forgotten codes or numbers. Quick Print offers the opportunity to capture and print data without having to first select an invoice or quotation layout.

The layouts can be preselected enabling Sage to default to that chosen layout. Again this will save end users time thus improving productivity or saving wage costs. Watch the videos for a demonstration.

Lock Date

If like me, you’ve ever posted something in the wrong financial year, you are going to love this new addition. Lock Date is found in Tools at the top of the home page and allows you to set a point in time that you wish to work from or to! If you then try to post something outside of that period a warning appears on screen to notify the user. Watch the demo….

Sage50 Mobile

This is probably the most exciting new feature this year, available as a FREE App for i-Phones and Blackberry handsets. Allows you access to your Sage 50 accounts live on your hand held device. Set access rights so that the users are seeing what they need to see. It can be used to get quick overviews of customers, suppliers and financial details. Or get more in depth information about individual accounts and create things like sales orders, quotes and invoices.

This is ideal for those of you who do your business on the go. Available from August 1st and remember it is FREE!
